Vaulted ceilings can allow a converted attic space major heat gain in the summer months. In this upstairs bedroom, Open Cell Insulation was sprayed between 2"x 10" rafters at a depth of 6 inches, achieving the R-30 required by the 2009 Energy Code. Spray insulation has the added benefit of sealing any air leaks. Closed Cell Spray Insulation offers a higher R-value, effectively giving as much as R-7 per inch.
